Advantages of a Shellac Manicure
If you are sick of your nails chipping on a regular basis and don’t have the time or money to have them repaired, then a shellac manicure might be ideal for you. Shellac nails also tend to be smoother and thinner than gel nails which can have a number of practical benefits. In addition, shellac nails allow you to have a consistent color for a period of three to four weeks without having to maintain or reapply your polish.
Disadvantages of Shellac Nails
With every manicure, pedicure or other nail procedure that we offer at Sun Room & Spa LLC, we are always upfront regarding the type of manicure that best meets your needs. While a shellac manicure has many advantages like its longevity and durability, there is no doubt that there are a number of disadvantages.
First of all, like gel nails, the UV lamp required to cure shellac nails is not without criticism. While our skilled technicians are trained in the proper use of the UV lamp and never exceed the appropriate timeframes for use, issues still exist. For instance, repeated UV lamp exposure can damage nail cuticles and the surrounding skin. In addition, the durable nature of shellac nails means that you must commit to a particular style or color for a longer period of time. This means that you need to be very sure of the color you want when investing in a shellac nail manicure. Finally, your nails will need some preparatory work before the UV curing takes place. If this process is repeated too frequently then it can damage your nails making them brittle and weak.
Shellac Nail Recommendations
At Sun Room & Spa LLC we have three key recommendations for anyone who is interested in using our shellac nail service.
- Use sunscreen lotion during the UV curing stage.
- Avoid repeated shellac manicures. Give your nails a break of two or three weeks before applying a new shellac treatment.
- Be sure of the color and style that you want.
